The ACSW offers registrants the opportunity to consult with a registered social worker on staff. Practice consultation is a process to support social workers in identifying, analyzing and resolving ethical or practice dilemmas guided by the ACSW Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics and relevant ACSW Practice Guidance.
Social workers are responsible for their own practice decisions. A consultation is not designed to provide solutions to an ethical dilemma or practice issue or make specific recommendations/decisions on behalf of social workers. A consultation does not replace supervision or legal or other expert advice.
The ACSW also provides consultation to employer and members of the public on social work practice questions.
