To practice social work and provide services in Alberta, you must be registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers. The e-practice registry provides registration in Alberta, for registered or licensed social workers in another province within Canada or the USA, to provide social work services to Albertans through virtual or electronic platforms. E-practice registration is granted for one year and is renewable upon expiry.
To qualify for the ACSW e-practice registry, you must
- be a registered or licensed social worker in another recognized province within Canada or the USA
- applicants must be fully registered or licensed on the general register with active or practicing status
- be in good standing with the home province social work regulatory body where you are registered or licensed, with no limitations, conditions or restrictions on your registration or license
- provide social work services to Albertans through electronic or virtual platforms, from a recognized jurisdiction within Canada or the USA
E-Practice Registry Requirements
- Complete application including payment of all applicable fees

- You must submit the online application form as well as complete payment of the $100 application fee. Annual renewal fees are required, and can be found on the fee schedule.

- You must submit a verification form completed by the home province regulatory body where you are currently registered/licensed as a social worker, as well as separate forms for any additional professional registrations you may hold
- Resume / CV
- Submit a current resume detailing your education and work experience, including dates and locations
- Current and valid criminal record check

- A criminal record check is valid for three months from the date it was issued
- Mandatory training
- Click here to complete the mandatory training course: Sexual Abuse and Misconduct Education for Health Professionals. Save and submit the certificate of completion. The course will take approximately 90 minutes to complete.
Please note:
- All necessary documents must be submitted with the application. Incomplete applications will be closed after two months.
- Application and registration fees are non-refundable.
- You are required to keep your ACSW registrant profile up-to-date with contact and practice information.
- Practicing registered social workers are trusted health professionals and are accountable to the ACSW Standards of Practice and CASW Code of Ethics
- Social workers on the e-practice registry are not eligible for practice enhancement authorizations such as the clinical registry or individual authorization to perform restricted psychosocial interventions.
