The Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) is committed to becoming a more inclusive, equitable, and diversity-embracing regulatory body that honours truth and reconciliation.

Our commitment to and focus on Reconciliation, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (REDI) has been embedded as one of the Goals of ACSW’s most recent Strategic Plan (2023-25):

  • We demonstrate regulatory excellence
  • We are leaders in the integration of the principles of Truth and Reconciliation
  • We are leaders in the integration of the principles of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
  • We demonstrate organizational excellence

Members of Council and staff identified and collaborated to create a framework that will transform how we govern, operate, and regulate with the purpose to lead with and embrace inclusion. In September 2024, Council approved the Governance Revision Project (GRP) Report of Findings and Recommendations. Recommendations one and two, specifically address actions related to reconciliation, equity, diversity and inclusion, which states:

  1. Develop and implement an action plan to deliver on the strategic goals “To implement principles of reconciliation” and “To implement principles of diversity, equity and inclusion.” An action plan will support and reinforce the activities needed to fulfill on the strategic goals.
  2. Define the College’s REDI principles and review governance policies to ensure principles are embedded, including language and accessibility consideration, and review where necessary.

As part of this initiative, we created four Reconciliation, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (REDI) principles that are intended to guide this transformation:

  • Principle 1: Strengthen cultural competency and awareness
  • Principle 2: Embed REDI into ACSW policies and procedures
  • Principle 3: Commit to diverse representation and leadership
  • Principle 4: Embrace community relationships

The REDI Project, led by MDR Strategy Group and as part of the ACSW Governance Revision Project, through a process of research, engagement and analysis, has set out to provide ACSW with an evidence-based foundation to shape ACSW’s REDI commitment and vision by establishing REDI principles as key to developing a strategic action plan aimed to strengthen public protection through cultural humility, fairness and inclusion.

We are now seeking your input to guide our approach, ensuring that our vision and work reflect the experiences and needs of our collective communities, and support meaningful and accountable progress in the public interest.

Your voice and input matters.

The REDI feedback survey is now closed, thank you for your interest.
